Picking Up Slack In Your Downtime
The Professional Moonlighter’s Way

Snatching victory from the clutches of defeat is a learned trait. The more adversity you face, the more developed this skill becomes. But when you have no idea of where to start, you could probably benefit from a bit of guidance. And that’s the entire purpose of our little lesson today.

Any place you’re able to showcase your talents is precisely the sort of location that you will find most beneficial at this time. Consider every new contribution you make to the digital arena an opportunity to expand your portfolio. I’m fortunate insomuch that I have my own website at my disposal. But there are fees attached to such an endeavor, which is why you’re most likely seeing ads right now. Those very ads can also provide an additional layer of supplementary income to aide during a person’s downtime.

This tactic doesn’t even require you to be successful, only diligent. As an added bonus, the more you add to your digital footprint the more experienced you become, and the more honed your skillset becomes. These three things will thus prove invaluable to potential employers and clients. And you’ll have amassed a wealth of material with which to prove your capabilities as well.

You’ll find during these lull periods that the skills you’re building just so happen to reflect those utilized by the job sector to which you’re applying. As such, it should be a goal to perform so well at these requisite tasks that you outperform persons currently holding the positions you want. As you continue to flesh out your portfolio, you become the competition. And those who can look past that are more likely to hire you based on merit.

So my best advice is to find a spot to get your digital portfolio in place and keep honing those skills. And if you’re fortunate enough to get paid for it, you’re doing exactly what you set out to do professionally. But don’t stop. Become so intimately familiar with your intended career path, that you can AND do perform the required tasks as a side gig in your spare time, and there’s no way you could fail.

Alright I’m outta here. We’ll meet again, don’t know where, don’t know when. But until then dream on, dream until your dreams come true.
